NEW MORGAN, Pa. -- A security guard was killed and another wounded during a shooting at a business in Berks County, according to police.
Investigators said the shooting happened shortly after midnight Saturday morning in the 200 block of Quarry Road in New Morgan borough.
According to Berks County District Attorney John Adams, the victims were contracted employees doing security for the Morgan Corporation, a manufacturer of truck bodies. However a spokesperson for the company said Monday the two were not working for Morgan.
"They observed a suspicious vehicle in the area near Quarry Road," said Adams.
He said when the guards approached the vehicle, they were met with gunfire. A 37-year-old guard was killed.
"The other security guard, his wound is somewhat superficial and he has already been discharged from the hospital," said Adams.
Authorities said they do not yet know why the car was there or how many people may have been inside of it.
Adams tells 69 News investigators have not yet determined if there was more than one shooter.
"You know this is an area of our county which is very rural and you know typically we have little criminal activity in New Morgan Borough," said Adams.
